Ballyconnell —County Cavan

Ballyconnell was founded in 1688 and soon grew into a thriving town on the coach route to the spas at Swanlinbar.
In 1856 a canal linking the Shannon and Erne via Ballyconnell was opened. In all, about eight boats used it. Since it was re-opened for non-commercial boating it has gained new vitality.
Ballyconnell is a picturesque town located on the Shannon Erne Waterway. This Waterway links the mighty Rivers' Shannon between Leitrim, Cavan and Fermanagh.
The atmosphere of the town is lively.
