Limerick is a diverse county steeped in thousands of years of history and tradition. From the well marked walking trails across the lowlands, around heritage towns or glorious gardens to exploring the medieval city of Limerick there is a multitude of things to see and do. King John's Castle is situated in the heart of Limerick city's Medieval Heritage Precinct, on the River Shannon at “Kings Island”. The Castle was built between 1200 and 1210 and remains a most impressive Anglo-Norman fortification. Lough Gur Visitor Centre tells the story of the pre-Celtic settlers of Ireland who farmed and lived in this peaceful valley while the Hunt Collection at the renowned Hunt Museum is an internationally important collection of some 2000 original works of art and antiquity.
