Camerata Pacifica

Tourism Ireland has teamed up with County Down native Adrian Spence, founder of Camerata Pacifica, to present the 2008 Gala and Tour - an exciting international tour, by an ensemble of the finest performers of chamber music from around the world.

The program includes a free public performance of Belfast composer Ian Wilson's "Messenger" Concerto and Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 on April 22, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles. This launches a series of performances in the US (Washington April 24, New York April 25) and an international tour which concludes in St Anne's Cathedral in Belfast on May 3. Other Irish venues include the Guildhall, in Londonderry Northern Ireland on April 29 and The National Concert Hall in Dublin on April 30.

Joining the Ensemble in Los Angeles at a Gala dinner following the April 22 performance is top 5-star Executive Chef Noel McMeel, who will be on hand to highlight Ireland's Culinary Renaissance and to showcase a true taste of Northern Ireland. Based in County Fermanagh's breathtaking Lough Erne Golf Resort and Hotel, Noel will present a signature modern Irish dish to Gala guests. For more information about Noel, click here.

Spence and Camerata Pacifica commissioned The "Messenger" Concerto from IanWilson for the Cork-born Catherine Leonard, who is the Camerata's Principal Violinist. From half a world away, the talented three have been brought together by their shared love of music. The ensemble, though based on the West Coast of the US, represents a truly international collective whose artists carry a resonance across all cultures.

21st century Ireland - a peaceful country of confidence, cultural sophistication and international vibrancy - has found a metaphor in this music.
