The Dingle Peninsula Food and Wine Festival is a great celebration of local foods and traditions spread throughout the atmospheric streets of Dingle town on the first weekend in October each year. The town will once again host the finals of the prestigious Blas na hEireann, Irish Food Awards. A Heritage Food Animation Experience will be a highlight of this years festival. Showcasing food of the peninsula from the late 19th century up to the time of Ryans daughter(1969), which had huge social and cultural influences on the peninsula. Together with music, storytelling and multi-media projections the history of the food and culture of the peninsula will come to life. A specially erected Bothánthiocht - in times past people would come together to discuss the events of their day and entertain each other with storytelling and music. A food themed art exhibition will be on display while a multi media presentation will project images and footage of traditional bread making, fishing and cooking as well as unseen footage from the making of Ryans Daughter. Local chefs will provide a taste of authentic foods of the period, including mackerel, mutton pies, rabbit stew and other tasty morsels! Homage will be paid to the humble Irish spud with an offering of Irish potatoes cooked to various traditional recipes. The Food Heritage animation will run for the duration of the Dingle Peninsula Food Festival, adding a new exciting and cultural aspect.
