East Kerry Roots Festival

Castleisland

25 July 2013 - 28 August 2013

The East Kerry Roots Festival will be a celebration of the unique culture and heritage of the greater Sliabh Luachra area. People from around the world, who have an ancestral link to East Kerry, are invited to come back home and enjoy the activities and events that will be organised during the festival in Castleisland and the surrounding parishes. As part of The Gathering 2013 East Kerry Roots will also be hosting the Brosnan Clan gathering during the festival. The Brosnan name has been one of the most prominent in East Kerry for centuries, with its origins believed to be linked to the Brosna area. An invitation is being extended to all Brosnan clan members locally, nationally and internationally to come together and celebrate their proud heritage. Visitors and locals will be able to enjoy visiting the parish of their ancestors; spending time in the graveyard where their ancestors were buried; doing a genealogy workshop to help them find out more about their ancestors; meeting some long lost cousins; attending sessions of Sliabh Luachra music; attending an American Wake; listening to songs and story-telling in a Rambling House; following a Heritage Trail; and taking part in a Memorial Mass with traditional music to celebrate the memory of all our ancestors.
