The annual Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta football tournament will take place in the Gaeltacht area of An Rinn/An Sean Phobal in Co. Waterford over the June Bank Holiday weekend. Football teams from counties Donegal, Mayo, Galway, Kerry, Cork, Meath and Waterford will contest both senior and junior football trophies over the weekend. Up to 10,000 people are expected to congregate in West Waterford for this year's festival weekend, which will include a range of ancillary events and activities for all. Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by clubs from the Irish language-speaking Gaeltacht areas of Ireland. Clubs compete on a county-basis at first, in order to qualify for the tournament that is hosted by a different club from the Gaeltacht each year. The inaugural competition was held in Gaoth Dóbhair, Co. Donegal in 1969, with the local club being crowned champions. Irish language radio station, RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta will provide extensive radio coverage of the national finals all weekend and TG4 will provide live television coverage of the finals on the Bank Holiday Monday, 3 June and these will also be webcast worldwide.
