The Annual Donegal Fiddle Summer School with Cairdeas na bhFidiléirí
Glencolmcille
29 July 2013 - 03 August 2013
The 28th Annual Donegal Fiddle Summer School with Cairdeas na bhFidiléirí is a paradise for fiddle players from aspiring to accomplished. There are classes to cater for everybody, from absolute beginners to advanced levels and classes are carefully graded to try and have the right balance of abilities and age balance in each class. The fiddle school runs from 10am to 4pm daily and on some days there are additional talks after these times which are open to everyone. There are fiddle concerts on Tuesday and Friday nights at 9pm. A part of the fiddle course involves the students having a dance class, it is very important to understand the dances that the music is played for, since it evolved to serve dancing. Non fiddle school students can also avail of the dance class by arrangement with the organisers of the fiddle school. Thursday night has a dance with a mighty live fiddle band and is open to everyone. Short introductory courses can be provided for people who would like to know something about the local music if enough people are interested. Outside of the class times there are many informal sessions which can start up just about any time! If you have had fiddles up to saturation point there is wonderful scenery, great walks, beautiful beaches, fascinating archaeology, local crafts, history and culture abound. Glencolmcille is a Gaeltacht (Irish speaking) area. See website for more details or to contact the organisers.
