Sligo Jazz Project

Sligo Town

16 July 2013 - 21 July 2013

Sligo Jazz Project (S.J.P) is a volunteer run organisation which brings world class music and music education to Sligo, Ireland. SJP's flagship event each summer is one of the most important jazz education events in Europe. We make great things happen in Sligo! Described by The Irish Times as 'one of the most important events in the jazz calendar', Sligo Jazz Project hosts a week of world class concerts at the Hawkswell, plus nightly jam sessions, a healthy pub/hotel/café trail and nightly festival club events throughout the city. The large number of budding musicians attending the summer school from all over the world need some stamina, with workshops from 10am to 4pm each day and then a fabulous array of concerts and jam sessions to keep them busy into the wee hours each night. With all this mutual activity to share, learning, playing music and listening to the world class festival acts together each day, then jamming together each night, participants experience a wonderful camaraderie that builds throughout the week and then culminates with a concert by all the summer school participants on the Sunday afternoon. Of course it's not just for musicians either, the general public has enjoyed this week of world class jazz and world music annually since 2006.
