Scoil Acla is Ireland's oldest summer school which was originally founded in 1910 and re-launched in 1985. Scoil Acla continually attracts a huge number of visitors, from home and abroad, who are interested in traditional music, culture, the Irish language and the arts. Since its re-launch it has prided itself by offering the very best tuition in traditional music, song and dance as well as a creative writing course, Irish language classes, basket weaving course with all levels catered for from beginner to advanced students in each course. Scoil Acla also has a musician in residence programme and invites a poet each year. There are always many other events such as walks, talks, lectures, book launches, CD launches, Hata Acla competition, Gala concert, traditional music recitals, Open air concert and much more. Scoil Acla is ideal for those who want to mix a summer school with a holiday.
