Westport is the proud host of Ireland's longest running sea angling festival with 2013 being the 57th year of the event. The Westport Sea Angling Festival is one of the most prestigious events on the angling calendar, and attracts anglers from all over Ireland as well as England, Scotland, Wales, and Holland. The competition starts on Wednesday with a shore competition, and continues on Friday, Saturday & Sunday with a 3 day boat competition. Anglers who may wish to participate in all or some of the festival are always welcome. Prizes are awarded in various categories, which include: Overall (over 3 days), Overseas, Team of 4 and Team of 2, as well as numerous others. Many anglers who attend the event return year after year to renew old friendships and rivalries. A warm welcome awaits you at Westport Sea Angling Festival, where you will have the opportunity to fish the beautiful, bountiful waters of Clew Bay, which is home to many and varied varieties of fish, such as Dogfish, Bullhuss, ray, gurnard, ling, tope, skate and more.
