Sli Bhride - Brigid Celtic Pilgrimage Walk
Kildare Town
07 July 2013 - 15 July 2013
Brigid's Way Celtic Pilgrimage Walk will take place in 7th July 2013, starting at Brigid's traditional birthplace of Faughart in Co. Louth, passing through Louth, Meath and Kildare, ending in Kildare Town. The route of the Sli Bhride, Brigid Pilgrimage Walk, will coincide with the Curragh - Tara - Realtage - Slane - Oriel - Faughart alignment which reflects the Cygnus Constellation, which was prominent at the time of Brigid's Birth ( 435 AD) as suggested in 'Island of the Setting Sun' , by Anthony Murphy and Richard Moore. It is expected that the pilgrimage will take 9 days to walk, starting at Brigid's Shrine, in Faughart, County Louth, her traditional birthplace and ending in Kildare Town, home of Brigid's Abbey. People are invited to walk some, or all, of this ancient pilgrimage route and food and accommodation will be arranged for those taking part. This initiative has been inspired by a desire to revive the ancient art of pilgrimage, which was so central to the indigenous spiritual traditions of this land. This pilgrimage, which honours Brigid, Goddess and Saint, will allow participants to slow down their pace of life by walking through some of the most beautiful and historic rural towns, villages and countryside in Ireland, to find that place of deep inner peace. Full details of the pilgrimage will are available on www.doloreswhelan.ie and www.slianchroi.ie. Date to be confirmed.
