Carlingford Lough Endurance Challenge

Carlingford

06 July 2013

Carlingford Lough Endurance Challenge (CLEC) is a multi-sport endurance event which involves hill running, mountain biking, road cycling and sea-kayaking. It is open to two or three person teams, male, female and mixed. Competitors must leave each transition as a complete team. Final time taken on last member to cross the finish line. New this year is the Sports or ' Tarmac ' CLEC. This challenge will be an individual event and shorter in distance (38K) using a road bike instead of a mountain bike. The Mountain Bike CLEC traverses the local Cooley Mountains and navigates Carlingford Lough in Co. Louth. Competitors bike 31K (three stages of 18K, 5K and 8K), run 14K (including two peak runs) and kayak 2K. And after all this, they still have the energy to enjoy one of the best BBQ's and post event party, on the circuit at Carlingford Sailing Club. Top competitors take four and half hours to cover the 51K, while the final finishers are expected in 6 and a half hours. The Sports 'Tarmac' CLEC should take participants between two and four hours to complete (depending on levels of fitness and experience). It is the perfect introduction to adventure racing of this kind. Date to be confirmed
