In 2013 the 8th Connemara Mussel Festival will be celebrated in the beautiful Renvyle Peninsula in north-west Connemara and promises to be a weekend of fun and craic for all the family. Professional chefs will demonstrate the cooking of mussels and other local produce. The amateur and celebrity mussel cooking competitions are a major highlight but there are plenty of other activities too - heritage walks with a renowned archaeologist; dramatic presentations and children's storytelling; fly casting classes; a country market with local producers offering crafts and food; an art exhibition showcasing work by local artists; and, to round off the weekend, a fabulous Seafood Gala Dinner. In the evenings there will be a variety of live music available in the local pubs. The Connemara National Park is close by as well as beautiful beaches and majestic mountains. Scuba diving and boat trips can be enjoyed nearby. Accommodation is available locally in hotels, B&B's, self-catering cottages and campsites.
