Cuisle Chorca Dhuibhne: Dingle's Global Rhythms Festival
12 July 2013 - 14 July 2013
The 2nd Cuisle Chorca Dhuibhne 2013 will feature an eclectic mix of rhythm styles and percussive performances. Samba, jazz, Afro-Cuban, reggae, traditional Irish and West African drum and dance grooves will be heard over the weekend. Local traditional marching bands and samba bands will parade through the town on Saturday afternoon. Street performances & evening gigs will maintain the buzz throughout the weekend. Each festival night will showcase different bands and during the daytime there will be workshops, drum circles, dance classes and exhibitions to provide a complete hands-on experience for everyone, young and old. Dingle's Global Rhythms Festival 2012 had bodhrán classes, a capoeira exhibition and rumba dance classes not to mention Fuinneamh, Ireland's largest drum! Centrally located, this 14ft diameter massive drum enticed and entranced the public to join in and lay down their own ginormous grooves. Cuisle Chorca Dhuibhne means the pulse or beat of West Kerry. This is a friendly and informal not-for-profit, community-based festival. Any money raised will go to insuring that it becomes a permanent feature of the musical and cultural life of the Dingle Peninsula. Buille le buille, sin í Cuisle Chorca Dhuibne. 2013 dates to be confirmed.
