The week long Carrick-on-Shannon Water Music Festival features the Lakelands Gala Proms as one of its highlight events. Directed by world class conductor, Fergus Shiel, the proms has become an annual 'must-see' for lovers of classical music, with its rich format of popular classics delivered by a superb 30 piece orchestra and singers of the highest international calibre. This prestigious festival is also renowned for featuring major international artists across all music genres from rock to jazz and from traditional to world music. Children and families are actively encouraged with many daytime activities such as puppet shows, interactive music shows and street entertainment laid on to occupy even the most energetic and enthusiastic child. As well as the Saturday night proms at the main festival marquee (all seated), Friday and Sunday nights at the marquee also feature major performances from international acts. More events take place at the local theatre, The Dock, leisure cruise boat Moon River, the beautiful St. George's Church and Heritage Centre, as well as in several local bars and cafes. Set in one of Ireland's loveliest counties, there are numerous visitor attractions to enjoy in the area as well as all that the award winning market town of Carrick-on-Shannon has to offer with its riverside setting and its many fine parks and landscapes.
