World Youth Fly Fishing Championship

The Trout Anglers Federation of Ireland (TAFI) is to host the 12th World Youth Fly Fishing Championships. Teams from as far away as New Zealand, Australia, Japan, South Africa the Americas and also right across Europe will be eligible to participate. The opening ceremony is been held in Dundalk on 21st July 2013 with the Carrickdale Hotel in County Louth as the championship headquarters. The marvellous setting of Hillsborough Castle in County Down hosts a Conservation Symposium and the official closing ceremony on 26th July. Each team will consist of 6 anglers (age limit from 13 to 19), Manager and Coach. They will be fly fishing for Brown and Rainbow trout on rivers and lakes in Counties Louth, Monaghan, Tyrone and Antrim. The hosting of this prestigious event is the result of many years of dedicated voluntary work by TAFI members, both promoting youth angling within Ireland and in the training of the Irish Youth Team to fish in all the World Championships since they began in 1998. Hosting this championship will help raise Irelands status as a world renowned angling destination as the event will receive coverage in angling publications and other media outlets in the 32 countries affiliated to Fips Mouche. Fips Mouche (International Sport Fly Fishing Federation) are the regularity body who run the World Championships with Ireland been one of the founding member countries.
