Meath is hosting the event, with the action taking place at Killeen Castle over the bank holiday weekend. And with many events happening around the area, bringing family fun events into the mix as well, there'll be plenty of entertainment for all.A glittering field is guaranteed as the Open returns to the Jack Nicklaus-designed course for the third year in a row. The championship is contested over 54 strokeplay holes, with 60 players surviving the two-round cut. Killeen Castle is situated in a 600-acre estate close to the picturesque village of Dunsany in County Meath. The area also hosts some of the country’s most spectacular historic landmarks, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site Newgrange and the Hill of Tara. World Class Golfers... The Ladies Irish Open tees off at Killeen Castle on Friday the 3rd August, welcoming some of the world’s greatest golfers to Meath. The event runs through to the 5th of August and will be showcasing not only some of the world’s greatest golfers but also some of Ireland's most beautiful scenery. You can look forward to seeing some of the world's top golfers, including Suzann Pettersen who will be defending her 2011 Ladies Irish Open title, Christina Kim who is looking forward to returning to Ireland for what is one of her favourite events on tour in addition to a wealth of home grown talent including Rebecca Codd, Danielle McVeigh and Tara Delaney. Leona & Lisa Maguire aged 17, jointly named Women’s Amateur of the Year at the AIB Irish Golf Writers’ awards for 2011, will also compete against the world’s best professionals. Something for all the family... Along with golf, there will be plenty of entertainment for all including live music, a dedicated Kidzone and a traditional Farmer’s Market which will provide a host of delicious local Irish artisan foods and beverages. Location: Located just off exit 6 on the M3, just fifteen minutes from the Blanchardstown exit 6 M50 turn-off, the event is very accessible to the greater Dublin area and surrounding counties.
