Gathering the Gathering

Cork City

01 January 2013 - 31 December 2013

Gathering the Gathering is the capture of your personalised views, opinions and stories throughout The Gathering 2013. Record and upload your personal messages from the first minute of 2013 when Gathering the Gathering goes live and on 31 December 2013 all of the messages will be sent to space! The recordings will be transmitted by radio waves to an extrasolar planet (i.e. one which is outside our Solar System) by an array of radio telescopes at the end of 2013. These cosmic digital postcards will also be stored in a time capsule at CIT Blackrock Castle Observatory and will not be opened until 2033, when the nation's thoughts and dreams arrive at its destined extrasolar planet. Tell us about why you love Ireland, what makes you Irish, why you love Taytos, why Bosco and Glenroe made an impact on your life. Tell us why you have a grá for Éire. Make an individual or event message. Gather your friends and family and create an impact. In 20 years' time the capsule will be open to reveal its contents to the world and you will get a unique look back into your past and the lives of the people around you in 2013. Snippets of your cosmic postcards will be available in a special exhibit at CIT Blackrock Castle Observatory, Cork and on Gathering the Gathering, giving your clan the chance to be involved and track your message as it travels through space.
