Éigse na Brídeoige

Waterville

01 February 2013 - 03 February 2013

A uniquely bi-lingual festival, Éigse na Brídeoige takes place in the beautiful Gaeltacht area of Uíbh Ráthach, between the mountains and the sea, on the spectacular Ring of Kerry. Éigse 2013 will be the 21st festival celebrating different aspects of our heritage and culture. 'Bríd Dána; Bríd na nDán' (Bríd patron of the arts) is the theme of this year's festival. Lá 'le Bríde (St. Brigid's Day) was always an important date on the calendar of Irish Feast Days, celebrating the beginning of spring and the end of the bleak dark days of winter. The Gaeltacht communities of Iveragh welcome visitors to join them in keeping the tradition alive and to be part of their celebrations. The festival will explore the legends, stories, and songs associated with St. Brigid through lectures, workshops, poetry, music, a seminar and concert involving local people and some of Ireland's best loved performers. Events will be held in various community venues in different locations in the midst of the most breath-taking scenery. Everyone is welcome to join in the discussions and craic. Simultaneous headphone translation will be available for all events that are in Irish. 'Anois teacht an Earraigh ... ' Bí linn agus fáilte.
