The John Barry Maritime Festival celebrates Wexford's rich maritime heritage and culture, including father of the US Navy, Commodore John Barry and this year will also celebrate the 50th Anniversary of JFK's visit to Wexford. Maritime activities include National Thundercats Championships, rowing and sailing races, visiting fleet including RNLI lifeboats, customs, navy, the Celtic Mist and Viking boats. Emergency services demonstrations will include the RNLI and Irish Coast Guard helicopters. Dress up and take part in the fun raft races or try kayaking and canoeing. Children's activities include arts and crafts, kindermusik, scientastic, funfair and much more. Sample the local food produced by Wexford companies in Wexford's largest outdoor food village on Wexford Quay. Visit maritime exhibitions, art galleries, cultural events, talks on John Barry & Model boats displays, and enjoy festival show productions, live music, dance and entertainment. All monies raised will go towards Wexford RNLI's new lifeboat. Many events are free and the festival caters for all ages from toddlers to OAPs.
