Waterford Viking Marathon prides itself on being a unique, feel-good running event open to athletes of all levels. Registrations are open to those who wish to take part as a full marathon, half marathon or relay participants. The route is challenging and yet very picturesque as it takes in many of Waterford's famous tourist attractions. The start line is located outside the iconic House of Waterford Crystal in the heart of the new Viking Triangle in the City Centre. The race then travels out past the People's Park heading in the direction of the county taking in the beautiful seaside town of Tramore. Top quality facilities are provided for all runners with over 300 stewards lining the route and spirits are kept high when it is most needed with the help of local bands, musicians and entertainers. A family fun event welcomes all tired yet proud and emotional runners at the finish line in the Regional Sports Centre followed by the prize-giving at which there are fantastic prizes for winners of each category. All participants that complete their race receive a top quality medal, T-shirt and goody bag. The Waterford Hospice and The Alzheimer's Society of Ireland are the two nominated charities to benefit from Waterford Viking Marathon but many more local and national Charities will gain through monies raised. Online registration for 2013 is now open.
