Cape Clear Island International Storytelling Festival
06 September 2013 - 08 September 2013
Cape Clear Storytelling Festival is now in its 19th year and each year its reputation in the world of storytelling increases. Scheduled in September, when island life quietens down after the hectic summer months of the Irish colleges and summer activity courses, the festival has now become a main calendar event on the island. Utilising the natural resources of Cape Clear and the backdrop of the island's stunning scenery, all venues are carefully chosen on different parts of the island: the Club, hostels, college halls and in the open air. The very popular Heritage Walk is hosted by a local biologist and historian taking the well-worn path from the now famous pre-Christian Cape Clear stone on North Harbour through to the island's ancient cemetery and up to the Napoleonic tower and old lighthouse steeped in history and wildlife. Running over 3 days; each day offers a variety of activities and concerts suitable to all ages. Five different venues are chosen for the various events which combine both free and paying events such as a free 'Hear all the Tellers', heritage walk, set dancing workshop, open air story swap, children's workshops and a free storytelling concert. Ticketed events include the three main storytelling concerts, smaller concerts, a storytelling workshop and even a storytelling boat trip around the island!
