The West Cork Literary Festival centres on an extensive schedule of workshops which run for 3 and 5 days. Poet Ruth Padel will facilitate an advanced Poetry Workshop. Kevin Rushby, chief travel correspondent of The Guardian will present a Travel Workshop. Each day participants will travel to Whiddy Island by ferry to take part in the workshop, giving them a small taste of the life of an intrepid travel writer. Carol Drinkwater, Anglo-Irish actress, author & film-maker will give a workshop on Memoir and Non-Fiction. The workshop programme will acknowledge the impact of social media on contemporary writers through a workshop on how to manage your online reputation led by Ellyssa Kroski. The Short Story Workshop will be tutored by John MacKenna, author of short stories, memoir, novels, poetry and biography. Richard Skinner, Director of the Fiction Programme at the Faber Academy will present this year's Novel Workshop, where he will guide participants in how to get started and most importantly how to keep going. When you have written your poem, novel or short story. What then? Hazel Orme will offer advice and prompt ideas that may enable participants of her workshop, 'A Professional Finish, to get into print. Participants who wish to learn how to read their work to best effect will be signing up for Thomas Conway's workshop 'I see a voice', which provides a foundation course on public vocal performance. Magi Gibson will be returning to the festival to present her very popular workshop for 'Wild Women', helping participants overcome the barriers stopping them from connecting with their inner wild woman through exploring all kinds of writing Words Allowed, a workshop for teenage writers, will be returning. Dave Lordan, writer, teacher and creativity-in-education advocate, and the first writer to have won all three of Ireland's national prizes for young poets, will present this workshop. Jimmy Crowley will present the Songwriting Workshop while Hmes Harpur will present a Poetry Workshop that will suit all levels.
