Named in memory of legendary Irish musician Johnny Keenan, the Johnny Keenan Banjo Festival in Tullamore, County Offaly celebrates culture and friendship through the medium of music, in particular the relationship of Irish music to American bluegrass music. Each year the event brings the town of Tullamore to life with music (Irish traditional, American bluegrass and folk music) and with visitors from all corners of the world. The festival hosts a stellar line-up featuring award-winning international musicians of all three music traditions. There are nightly seated concerts, free outdoor music and craft exhibitions in the centre of town, formal and informal sessions and jams in various locations throughout the town, educational workshops in various instruments catering to music students of all ages and all levels, and a late-night festival club.
