What’s it all about?

From humble roots in 1999, when a leading BBC journalist dubbed it the "two pubs and a Cathedral" festival, Open House has mushroomed in charm and appeal to be the music highlight of Belfast’s calendar. The boutique festival attracts over 50 international and local acts of traditional Irish, Americana, Bluegrass and Alt country tunes, including Seasick Steve, Wilco and Old Crow Medicine Show. For six days the sounds of free performances, workshops and master classes rumble from the pubs of the city’s arts quarter while the main stage marquee stands at the heart showcasing the big gigs. To add extra zing to your guitar string try Chilifest, a celebration of all things chilli that runs alongside Open House with stalls of intriguing chilli jams, chilli bread and chilli ice-cream.
