Its over 20 years since we opend the Old Schoolhouse Inn and many a memorable and enjoyable meal has been had in our award winning restaurant since then. Situated at Castle Espie, beside the beautiful scenery of Strangford Lough the Old Schoolhouse Inn is a superb place to relax and enjoy your stay in Northern Ireland.
Accolades include the title of the Best Catering Establishment- awarded by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board in 2001, Georgina Campbell's Jamison Guide, Taste of Ulster Eating British Guide, joint winner at the Ards Business Awards 2003 Eating Establishment and the very best of Regional Food and Drink 2004. Finalist in Les Routiers Restaurant Award Ireland 2005. WHICH Good Food Guide 2012.
The establishment welcomed Will Brown, the new chef/proprietor in 2011. Will has taken over the reigns after long serving mother and Father Terry and Avril Brown have hung up their aprons having served almost 40 years at the top. Will has worked at the world famous Mirabelle Restaurant in London's Mayfair (Marco Pierre White’s leading restaurant), Paul Rankin's Roscoff in Belfast, the Michelin Star Glass House and 2 star Michelin, “The Square” (under Philip Howard, one of the best chefs in
Europe), again in London.
The fundamental backbone of Will’s dishes are based on impeccable seasonal ingredients accurately cooked and brought together on the plate in a harmonious, elegant, yet satisfying manner.
