Blackfield Surf School is an ISA approved school (Irish Surfing Association) and operates on the lovely location of Trawmore beach, a large southerly-facing beach at Keel on Achill Island. Trawmore beach is an ideal safe place for learning to surf, and Blackfield Surf School teaches beginner and intermediate surfers in a safe, fun way, with the best equipment including standard and high-performance soft surfboard. In summertime, we run a kids' only camp, aimed at 10-16 year olds (although younger children can come if accompanied by a guardian), and we are well equipped to run courses in the colder months as well. Run by Gerry Brannigan, he has over 20 years surfing experience as well as many years as a beach lifeguard all over Ireland, including six summers on Trawmore beach itself. Our building is less than a mile from the beach, and our eye-catching double decker bus houses a surf shop and a coffee bar on the top deck. This unique four-wheeled attraction is located right on Keel beach itself, and is open daily from 10.30 to 17.30 during July and August and on weekends in June and September. We introduced mini-land yachts into the school in 2010, so if you prefer to stay dry (well, dry-ish), you can learn to sail along the sand of Keel beach in one of our three-wheeled land yachts!
