Ireland West
The 207-acre Canon Island lies in the Shannon Estuary of County Clare and is the location of a 12th-century monastery established by Donal Mor O’Brien for the Augustinian Canons. Though little is known about the monastery, visitors can examine the ruins of the church, tower, sacristy, chapter room, kitchen, pantry and refectory, many of which date from the 15th century.
