The Irish Amateur Rowing Union was formed in 1899 to administer and control the sport of rowing in Ireland. In 1948 the Irish Amateur Rowing Union became affiliated to the International Rowing Federation. There are more than 50 clubs spread over the four provinces of Ireland for more than 4000 members. Each club has its own training and coaching facilities. As well as arranging the rowing programmes for each season, the Irish Amateur Rowing Union holds national Championships in a number of classes.
