The lake at Carton House has an excellent stock of both wild brown trout and for the coarse fishing enthusiast, it can also offer a good head of pike. Rising near Kilcock and flowing east through Carton Estate, the Rye joins the River Liffey at Leixlip. The river has good hatches of blue winged olives, alders and sedges which the trout feed well on during the fishing season. Trout weighing up to eight pounds have been caught on the River Rye. Fishing is by fly only except on Carton Lake, where both fly and spinning is permitted. Expert tuition is on hand from our resident instructor for those unfamiliar with the art of fly and rod. Rods, nets, flies, reel and all waterproof gear is available on site. A seventeen feet Sheelin boat and engine are available for hire to fish the lake.
