Add to My Ireland Curragh Kildare - Ireland East

From its earliest days as a meeting place of Celtic kings and chieftains, to the modern day glamour and excitement of the Irish Derby, the Curragh is without a doubt the beating heart of Irish racing. From March to October, the cream of the crop descend on the Curragh to partake in or enjoy the spectacle of the five classic races, The Irish Derby, Darley Irish Oaks, Irish 1000 and 2000 Guineas and the St Leger, as well as many more great races. The home of Irish flat racing and the largest horse training centre in the country, the Curragh has been host to all the great names in racing such as Sea The Stars, Vintage Crop, Galileo, High Chaparral and Nijinsky. Irish Derby Day is the highlight of the racing calendar. Usually run on the last Sunday in June, it is an infectiously exciting social occasion of great glamour and electric atmosphere. The moment you arrive you know that this day is going to be special. Featuring some of the finest racehorses in the world, owned, trained and ridden by the world’s finest trainers and jockeys, let yourself be swept away by the thrill of this world class racing.
