In the wonderfully picturesque setting of wooded parkland lies Gowran Park in Co. Kilkenny, one of Ireland’s most scenic racecourses. In fact, the first televised meeting in Ireland was at Gowran Park in 1969. Surrounded by mature trees, it has a stately appeal that is almost impossible to replicate. Although complemented by the beautiful scenery, this racecourse will always be the centre of attention. Whatever the time of year there is always a fixture to look forward to, from January’s crowd-pulling showpiece race, The Thyestes Chase, to kick-start the year to the highlight of October’s two-day racing festival, and many more besides. The track hosts 16 race meetings throughout the year including top quality National Hunt and Flat Race Meetings and has played host to legendary names such as Arkle, Hedgehunter and Numbersixvalverde The area is well known for its superior training establishments and stud farms and the locals take great pride in their racecourse.
