Strand Road, Portmarnock, County Dublin, Republic of Ireland

The Portmarnock Golf Club is unquestionably one of Ireland’s greatest and most challenging links. It has staged 16 Irish Opens, the Canada Cup, amateur Home Internationals, National Championships, and in 1991 the Walker Cup. Portmarnock’s position in world golf cannot be over-stated. There is a sense of excitement from the opening shot, the start of a journey, which navigates the four points of the compass and between, as both terrain and wind direction test a safe passage to the final hole. Exposed to coastal winds, the par three 15th is regarded a classic, which requires pin-point accuracy to find a safe landing area on the slickest of greens.
