Dromana House and Gardens

Add to My Ireland Cappoquin Waterford - Ireland South

Dromana House is located in an area of great historic interest, being only 8km downstream from Lismore, the Irish seat of the Duke of Devonshire. The house is a true gem, perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the beautiful, unspoilt River Blackwater. It is surrounded by 12 hectares of private pleasure grounds and walks with several interesting historic follies. There are a further 240 hectares of woodland immediately adjacent. This period property has been lovingly maintained by its owners, whose family have lived on this location since 1200. It contains a wealth of history, including being the home of the famous Countess of Desmond who in the 15th century was reputed to have lived to 140, having had three sets of natural teeth. She died falling out of a cherry tree at Dromana. The castle and mansion house of Dromana were the seat of one of the principle families of the South of Ireland, the Fitzgeralds, Lords of Decies, later Villiers-Stuart. The will open on selected days throughout 2013. Apr 2-6, 9-13, 16-20, 23-27, 30, May 1-4, 7-11, 14-18, 21-25, 28-31, June 1, 4-8, 11-15, 18-22, 25-29, Aug 17-25, 2pm - 6pm To avoided disappointment please telephone for more information on visiting arrangements, etc.
