All Ireland Poc Fada Championships Finals

Add to My Ireland Ravensdale Louth - Ireland East

All Ireland Poc Fada Championships 2013 are unique in the GAA and Camogie Association's calendars - they are the only national championships for individual players of both Camogie & Hurling in Ireland. From early Irish mythology the tale of the Táin Bó Cuailgne tells of the hero Cú Chulainn playing hurling at Emain Macha, where he went to join the Red Branch Knights. Cú Chulainn set off across the Cooley Mountains hitting his sliotar with his hurling stick and throwing his spear ahead of him, running to catch them before they landed ... or so the legend goes. Ireland's top exponents of this ancient sport take to the Cooley Mountains each year to compete in the All Ireland Poc Fada Championships in a re-enactment of this great legend with the Hurlers covering 5km. Hurlers and Camogs qualify by competing in County then Provincial Finals
