Keane whose social drama 'The Field' was filmed in 1991, and master of the short story, Bryan McMahon - all celebrated in 'SeanchaÃ' - the Kerry Literary & Cultural Centre.
The town hosts an early summer Writers Week and a spirited September horse racing festival.
