Dunshaughlin —County Meath

The name of the village (on the N3 south-east of Navan) is from the secundinus or seachnall, a disciple of St. Patrick who founded a church here in the 5th century. In the graveyard of the Protestant Church is a 10th or 11th century carving of the Crucifixion in a style similar to that found on High Crosses. Approximately 1.6 Km south of the village is a preserved workhouse abolished by the Irish State in the early twenties. The workhouse is under private ownership and is not open to the public.
