March 2002 was an historic occasion for the people of Lisburn, Country Antrim, Northern Ireland – it was the day the borough was awarded City Status by Her Majesty the Queen during her Golden Jubilee Celebrations. The city has a natural beauty, thanks in no small way to its setting in the beautiful Lagan Valley. Lisburn has had many famous residents in its time, from noted engineer Harry Ferguson to New Zealand Prime Minister John Ballance. In recent times, though, the city’s most famous resident is the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, who occupies the magnificent Hillsborough Castle just outside the city.
