Bank hours

Banks are open from 9am-4pm Monday to Friday with late opening until 5pm on Thursdays. Cork is well served with countless ATM machines, most of which will accept Cirrus.

Getting around

Cork is a small city and is easily navigated on foot.

Getting there and away

Cork Airport is located close to the city center and is serviced by train and bus. A taxi into the city center should cost between €10 and €13. Cork Airport has direct flights to London Heathrow; Gatwick and Stansted; Manchester; Birmingham; Plymouth, Bristol, Belfast, Paris, Frankfurt and Dublin. Swansea Cork Ferries sail between Swansea and Cork, while Brittany Ferries operates a service between Le Harve and Cork. Bus Eireann [www.buseireann.ie] operates buses to and from Cork City. Kent Station is the main train station in the city with services all over Ireland.

Parking

A disc parking system is operational in Cork City Center. Discs are available through appointed outlets showing a sign and cost €1.80 for an individual disc or €9 for a booklet of five. Failure to display a disc results in clamping and heavy fines.

Shopping

Shopping hours are generally 9am-6pm Monday to Saturday with late opening until 8am on Thursday. Most shops are also now open on Sunday from 12pm-6pm.

Smoking

Smoking is not permitted anywhere indoors in Cork, except in hotel rooms and private accommodations.
