Cootehill —County Cavan

Cootehill gets its name from the 17th century marriage of Thomas Coote- a Cromwellian Colonel-to Frances Hill from Hillsborough. The town of Cootehill is an important angling centre. Bellamont House designed by Lovett Pierce was built in 1725 and was one of the first of a kind of built in Ireland also known as a Palladion House. Also Cootehill boasts a 6000-year-old megalithic tomb located at Cohaw.
