Cavan —County Cavan

Cavan is a busy market town and commercial centre, the county capital was the seat of the O Reilly's of East Breffni, who built the Franciscan Friary in 1300. Only the belfry tower remains.
Today, the buildings in Cavan consist mainly of 19th and 20th century architecture.
The Church of Ireland church dates from 1810 and the Court House is another impressive 19th century building. The Roman Catholic Cathedral, whose bishop presides over the ancient Diocese of Kilmore, was built in 1942.
Cavan is an ideal touring base with excellent accommodation in all categories.
Bicycle hire can be arranged for those wishing to see the sights at a leisurely pace.
There is a strong pub scene, with many music sessions, and local craft shops are plentiful.
