Rathcormac —County Cork

Rathcormac recently (Easter Monday 2003) erected a magnificent bronze memorial to Countess Markievicz nee Gore Booth part of the Famous Gore Booth family who once occupied Lissadell House and still have strong linkages with the area.
Countess Markievicz would be best known for her role in the Eater 1916 Rising, she was sentenced to death but because of her gender she was instead given life imprisonment.
Although she then went on to become the first woman ever to be elected to the House of Commons in England following her winning the Dublin seat in 1918 and at the formation of the Dail she became Minister for Labour becoming the first woman Cabinet Minister in the world.
