This town was founded by Richard Boyle, Great Earl of Cork in 1588. Clonakilty is a town which has an excellent sense of what is best in terms of environmental presentation. It is noted for the excellence of many of its shop fronts which use traditional materials.
The nearby beach area of Inchydoney is extremely popular with visitors. Visitor Attractions include West Cork Model Railway Village and Arigideen Heritage Park.
