Bailieborough —County Cavan

Bailieborough was founded in the early 17th century by William Bailie, a planter from Ayrshire in Scotland. It has a broad main street dominated by a Protestant Church at one end. Nothing survives of the Castle he built beside a lake, but there are forest trails through the Estate to the west of Bailieborough. The town has close links with Canada, particularly with a small region in Ontario known also as Bailieborough. Also an interesting feature of Bailieborough is the Stations of the Cross by George Collie RHA, in the Roman Catholic Church. With a fine Public Library, Swimming and Leisure Centre it gives visitors a perfect opportunity to relax and unwind.
