March 2002 was an historic occasion for the people of Lisburn, Country Antrim, Northern Ireland – it was the day the borough was awarded City Status by Her Majesty the Queen during her Golden Jubilee Celebrations. The city has a natural beauty, thanks in no small way to its setting in the beautiful Lagan Valley. Scenery is a mix of gentle drumlins in the open countryside to picturesque towns and villages surrounding the hub of the city centre.

A place of pure enjoyment for young and old, the Lagan Valley Regional Park boasts many beautiful heritage sites, as well as relics from the Linen industry and the Lagan Canal. Brimming over with intricate and elegant architecture that ranges from the 18th century to modern classics, you’ll find everything from designer shops and bustling pubs to top notch restaurants and captivating heritage centres.

Lisburn has had many famous residents in its time, from noted engineer Harry Ferguson to New Zealand Prime Minister John Ballance. In recent times, though, the city’s most famous resident is the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, who occupies the magnificent Hillsborough Castle just outside the city.

A pleasure to visit, there’s so much to see and do in and around Lisburn City, the only real question is whether you can fit it all in?
