Founded in 1999, the Strokestown International Poetry Festival is established as one of the leading literary festivals in Ireland. Its origins are rooted in the songs and poetry of the area around the local mountain Sliabh Bán. The tradition of verse lives on in the festival and can now be enjoyed by a wider audience each May Bank Holiday Weekend. Poetry workshops and readings are free and take place in sublime Strokestown Park House where there is also a free tour of the famous gardens.
