Castlepollard —County Westmeath

The Pollard family under a Charter of Charles II built Castlepollard in the late 17th to early 18th century. This well laid out town, with an extensive triangular green, is surrounded by 19th century buildings. Located on the square is an interesting sculpture depicting a scene from the famous legend of 'The Children of Lir'.
During summer months visitors can enjoy Tullynally castle gardens, just outside the village on the Coole road, or visit Fore Abbey which is close by. Lough Derravaragh (associated with the Children of Lir legend) & Lough Lene are popular with fishermen & sightseers alike. Lough Lene is a blue flag lake.
