Ierlands eigen versie van het voetbal heeft een hoog tempo en zeer loyale schare fans. Het wordt omschreven als een tussenvorm van rugby en voetbal en lijkt qua spel sterk op het Australian Rules Football.
De bal in het Gaelic football is rond, iets kleiner dan een voetbal, en mag vier passen in de hand worden meegenomen. Dat geeft het spel een geheel ander aanzicht dan het bij ons bekende voetbal.
Croke Park, het op drie na grootste stadion in Europa, is ook de thuisbasis van het Gaelic football. Bij topwedstrijden kan het een ware heksenketel worden.
