Tarbert —County Kerry

Preserved and furnished in original style is the Tarbert House period residence dating from 1690 where the Leslie family played hosts to notables including Daniel O'Connell, Benjamin Franklin, Dean Jonathan Swift, Charlotte Bronte, Lord Kitchener and Winston Churchill.
The old Tarbert Bridewell Courthouse and Jail has been restored as a visitor centre illustrating law enforcement and jail conditions in the 1830s.
The shortest route between Kerry and Clare is via the Tarbert / Killimer Car Ferry. This 20 minute journey across the Shannon estuary saves 85 miles (137km). The ferry leaves Tarbert every hour on the half hour.
