Tucked into the Glenomra Valley under the Slieve Bernagh Mountains, the village and surrounding riverside forests connect into the 30-miles long East Clare Walkway network. The village is set on the southern slopes of the Slieve Bernagh mountains. Nearby is the picturesque Doon Lake, readily accessible from the road through public picnic and boating places. It is excellent for fishing. The surrounding landscape is well wooded; the woods of Violet Hill to the north of the village deserve particular attention for their mature specimens of beech, oak and other hardwoods.
